Roads Minister Forms Committee to Strengthen Axle Load Control and Protect Highways
New five-member taskforce set to review operations, tackle overloading, and enhance road safety

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has inaugurated a five-member committee to review and enhance the efficiency of the Axle Load Control Programme.
The committee, comprising representatives from National Security, Private Haulage Operators, the Ghana Highway Authority, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ghana Standards Authority, is tasked with identifying operational challenges, addressing regulatory violations, assessing fine management, and recommending reforms.
Overloaded cargo trucks have been a major cause of road damage and increased traffic accidents. In response, the ministry is committed to strengthening the Axle Load Control Programme to enhance road safety, protect infrastructure, and ensure compliance with transport regulations.
