Manchester United have paid a heartfelt tribute to Liverpool forward Diogo Jota following his tragic death in a car crash in Spain.

The 28-year-old footballer and his younger brother, André Jota, were both killed in the early hours of Thursday after their vehicle crashed and caught fire on the A-52 highway in the province of Zamora, northwestern Spain.

Jota, who had just married his long-time partner Rute Cardoso two weeks earlier, was enjoying the off-season when the fatal accident occurred.

The couple, together since 2012, share three children. Jota had recently posted wedding photos on social media, captioned: “June 22, 2025. Yes to forever.”

Manchester United took to social media to offer their condolences in a rare and touching gesture, writing:
“Our deepest condolences are with the loved ones of Diogo Jota and his brother André, and everyone connected with Liverpool FC following today’s heartbreaking news.”

According to Spanish outlet zamora24horas.com, the emergency services were alerted shortly after 12:30 a.m. when multiple calls reported a burning car left on the road.
