Media personality Kojo Preko Dankwa has backed renowned highlife artist Rex Owusu Marfo, popularly known as Rex Omar, for the role of Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts.
Speaking about President John Dramani Mahama’s recent appointment of a new Minister for Creative Arts, Dankwa, who also serves as President of the Foundation of Concerned Arts Professionals (FOCAP), highlighted Rex Omar’s significant contributions to the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO), his vast experience in the creative industry, and his prominent role in representing the sector during the 2024 NDC election campaign.
Dankwa emphasized Rex Omar’s efforts to engage with creatives across Ghana, noting that he had traveled to 12 of the 16 regions to meet with industry professionals. “This man really made an effort to meet creatives across the country. He could probably tell us the number of creatives in Ghana by now,” Dankwa said. He also mentioned that Rex Omar led the creative sector efforts during the NDC’s presidential campaign, which further positioned him as a key figure in the sector.
While Dankwa had initially hoped Rex Omar would be appointed to the top position, he expressed support for the former GHAMRO president being nominated as Deputy Minister. He praised Omar for his hard work in securing the party’s victory, particularly within the creative arts community.
Rex Omar’s involvement in drafting the creative arts section of the NDC’s manifesto was another point in his favor, according to Dankwa. He believes Omar’s contributions make him well-suited to support the new Minister-designate, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, in managing the affairs of the ministry.
Dankwa urged President Mahama to appoint individuals who have played a central role in shaping his campaign policies to key positions to ensure the successful execution of his plans.
