PSG Closing in on Title and Unbeaten Season

PSG on Verge of Fifth Consecutive Title and Unbeaten Season Record

Paris Saint-Germain are on the verge of achieving something remarkable this season.

Luis Enrique’s side is a staggering 21 points ahead of second-place Monaco in Ligue 1, and a victory at home against Angers on Saturday will secure the title with six games to spare. If they do so, it will mark only the third time in Ligue 1 history that a team has clinched the title so early.

PSG themselves previously secured the crown with eight games to go in 2016, while Lyon did so with six matches remaining in 2007.

PSG holds the distinction of having wrapped up the title the earliest, clinching it by mid-March in their 2016 campaign.

While winning the league title is becoming routine for the defending champions — this would be their fifth consecutive Ligue 1 crown and 12th in the last 14 seasons — the way they have achieved it this year is particularly impressive. Despite losing star players like Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar in recent years, PSG has remained dominant.

The team remains unbeaten in the league after 27 games, now closing in on the record for the most games without defeat at the start of a season. Nantes currently holds that record with 32 consecutive matches without loss from the start of the 1994-95 season, before suffering their first defeat in their 33rd match of a 38-game campaign.
