President John Dramani Mahama has visited the Central Business District of Adum in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, to assess the aftermath of a devastating fire that ravaged hundreds of shops, leaving traders in distress.
The inferno, which erupted in the early hours of Friday, March 21, reduced businesses to ashes, with affected traders scrambling to salvage what little they could.
During his visit, Mahama sympathized with the victims, assuring them of his unwavering support.
He stressed the urgency of relief efforts to restore livelihoods and called for a thorough probe into the cause of the fire.
However, he urged traders to refrain from cooking in the market, citing the improper use of gas cylinders as a contributing factor to the blaze.
The fire, fueled by highly flammable materials stored in shops, spread rapidly, overwhelming firefighters who struggled with obstructed access and delayed response times. Some traders suspect persistent power outages may have played a role in the disaster.
