President Mahama promotes top military officers in a leadership shake-up, urging them to serve with unity and dedication.

President John Dramani Mahama has promoted five senior officers to the rank of Major General or its equivalent within the Ghana Armed Forces, following recommendations from the Armed Forces Council.
The promotions, effective Monday, March 24, 2025, come as part of the transition ahead of the outgoing administration. A statement from Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communication, confirmed the appointments.
Major General William Agyapong has been named Chief of Defence Staff, with Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu taking over as Chief of Army Staff. Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing will serve as Chief of Naval Staff, while Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong assumes the role of Chief of Air Staff. Additionally, Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai has been appointed Chief of Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces.
President Mahama extended his congratulations, urging the newly appointed officers to lead with unity, dedication, and patriotism in safeguarding the nation.
