Leadership Transition Sparks Joy as Police Officers Welcome New IGP with Enthusiasm

Some police officers have jubilantly welcomed the appointment of Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), expressing their excitement over the leadership change.

IGP Yohuno was officially sworn into office by President John Dramani Mahama on Friday, March 14, at the Jubilee House, replacing Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

During his visit to the Police Headquarters, officers enthusiastically celebrated his arrival, hailing his leadership and expressing optimism about the future of the Ghana Police Service under his command.

In a striking display of excitement, some officers even sprayed cash on the newly appointed IGP, symbolizing their approval and joy over his appointment.

Amid the celebrations, some personnel openly criticized former IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, branding him a “tyrant” and a “dictator.” They claimed his removal had liberated the police service from his rigid leadership style.

The overwhelming reaction among officers underscores a shift in expectations, with many anticipating a new era of leadership and administration under IGP Yohuno.

His appointment is part of a broader restructuring effort aimed at strengthening law enforcement and enhancing public safety across the country.
