Today, Thursday, June 12, the Parliament’s Health Committee will hold discussions with leaders of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) as they seek to find a solution to the ongoing strike by the group.

The GRNMA launched the strike earlier this week to push for the enforcement of their 2024 Collective Agreement, highlighting issues such as unpaid allowances and delayed staff postings.

The government has responded by suggesting the agreement’s implementation be postponed to 2026, citing that the necessary financial provisions were not included in the 2025 national budget.

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh cautioned that immediate enforcement could jeopardize economic stability, supporting the government’s recommendation for a 2026 rollout.

However, the association has rejected this stance, demanding urgent implementation and arguing that nurses and midwives should not be penalized due to budget limitations.
