“We Won’t Rest Until Power Supply Is Stable” — Energy Minister Assures Otumfuo
John Abdulai Jinapor pledges stable electricity supply in Kumasi, unveils plans for a major power generation hub in the Ashanti Region.

Energy Minister and Green Transition advocate, John Abdulai Jinapor, has assured Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the people of the Ashanti Region that substantial efforts are being made to enhance the stability of power supply in Kumasi and its environs.
During a visit to the Manhyia Palace, Mr. Jinapor highlighted the successful installation of a new 145MVA transformer, which has more than double the capacity of the previous 66MVA unit. This upgrade is expected to significantly improve power distribution and reduce the outages that have plagued the region.

He acknowledged the challenges posed by load shedding, revealing that Ghana experienced up to 750 megawatts of power cuts at the peak in December. However, he assured that the situation has since stabilized, with Ghana even exporting excess electricity to neighboring countries.
Mr. Jinapor also outlined plans to make Kumasi a significant power generation hub, potentially contributing 500 megawatts of electricity to bolster the nation’s energy security.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed appreciation for the government’s swift response and pledged his support to further improve the power situation in the Ashanti Region.
The Energy Minister’s visit included inspections of key energy infrastructure, signaling a comprehensive approach to achieving long-term stability in power supply for both residential and industrial users.
