The National Identification Authority (NIA) has revealed that more than 822,000 Ghana Cards remain uncollected nationwide, despite the completion of the registration process by applicants.
This number is part of the over 18 million citizens who have registered for the Ghana Card during the ongoing nationwide issuance drive.
The disclosure was made during a press conference at the NIA headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, June 18.
Speaking to the media, Williams Ampomah Emmanuel Darlas, Head of Corporate Affairs at the NIA, expressed concern over the significant backlog of unclaimed cards and called on Ghanaians to promptly collect their identification cards.
“From over 18 million registrations completed, 822,440 cards have been printed but are still waiting to be picked up by their owners. We strongly encourage everyone who has registered but not yet collected their card to visit our offices across the country without delay,” he appealed.
The NIA continues to stress the critical importance of the Ghana Card as a primary form of identification and urges all registered individuals to retrieve their cards as soon as possible.
