The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that 603,328 candidates have enrolled for this year’s exams.

This year’s turnout shows a 5.99% increase from the 569,236 candidates who sat for the BECE in 2024.

Additionally, 1,661 private candidates—858 males and 803 females—are set to take part, marking a 19.49% rise from last year’s private candidate number of 1,390.

The exams will be administered at 2,237 centres across the country, with 14 extra centres—mostly in regional capitals—allocated for private candidates.

WAEC also disclosed that this will be the final year that private candidates will write the BECE based on the old syllabus.
