Osei Kweku Palmer, a former member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, has stated that Otto Addo is not the right coach to lead the Black Stars.
Palmer’s criticism follows a series of disappointing results under Addo’s leadership, which has made it difficult to justify his appointment as head coach. Over the course of the just-ended football calendar year, the Black Stars won only two out of 14 matches, with Addo in charge for 10 of those games.
Most notably, under Addo’s guidance, the team failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 20 years, recording no wins in six qualification matches.
“I’ve always been clear with my opinion on Otto Addo—that he is not the right man for the job,” Palmer said in an interview. “If you look at the results he has been producing, do you think he is doing well?”
He also referenced former Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah, who was dismissed after poor results, but has since led Sudan to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, defeating Ghana in the process.
As the Black Stars prepare for their next assignment in March, Addo will be hoping to turn things around and restore the team’s fortunes.
