The Committee for Public Accountability (CPA), a public interest group, has cautioned members of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) to refrain from any attempts to intimidate legitimate businesspersons or organizations in Ghana.
Addressing the press on Thursday morning, Hon. Collins Owusu Amankwah, Executive Chairman of CPA, stated that the committee has learned with great concern of irresponsible comments made by Raymond Archer, a member of ORAL, which threatened Mr. Daniel McKorley, Group CEO of McDan Company.
The comments implied that Mr. McKorley should pray that the NPP remains in government forever.
Hon. Amankwah emphasized, “CPA finds it necessary to address this unacceptable conduct, which has the potential to kill entrepreneurial spirit, hinder nation-building, and threaten our fledgling democracy.”
He further added, “We take a very serious view of the past and present statements made by Mr. Raymond Archer to the McDan Group CEO, urging him to pray for the perpetuation of his government. We would also like to put on record that Dr. Daniel McKorley is NOT a card-bearing member of the NPP or any other political organization.”
Details: The CPA Executive Chairman stated that any acts of intimidation or threats against businesspeople would erode confidence in doing business in Ghana.
“We find Mr. Raymond Archer’s statements and attitude very unfortunate, uncalled-for, and unwarranted, as they seek to undermine the business community,” Hon. Amankwah asserted.
He also reiterated that Dr. Daniel McKorley, like any other Ghanaian, has the right to engage in legitimate business activities to help grow the economy of Ghana.
In a bid to provide evidence of the hard work and diligence of McDan Group’s CEO, Hon. Amankwah showed a documentary highlighting Dr. McKorley’s journey. “From humble beginnings, Dr. Daniel McKorley has overcome many challenges, and God Almighty has blessed him and other successful entrepreneurs in Ghana.”
Assurance: Hon. Amankwah assured Ghanaian businesses that the CPA is committed to protecting their legitimate interests and operations.
The group has urged all businessmen and women to continue their legitimate businesses, with the assurance that CPA is ready to defend them through legal action if necessary.
“As a pro-democracy and good governance group, the CPA would like to respectfully assure the public that we will continue to promote and advance responsible conduct, ethical leadership, and well-mannered cultural behaviors in Ghanaian society,” Hon. Amankwah said.
He added, “Our platform encourages citizen participation, particularly within the business community, in nation-building.”
Caution: The CPA Executive Chairman also cautioned Raymond Archer and others to act professionally and without bias while serving on the ORAL Team.
He stressed that using the ORAL Team to settle personal scores against Dr. Daniel McKorley and other business magnates would be fiercely resisted by the leadership of CPA.
Hon. Amankwah noted that the CPA is closely monitoring the situation and stands ready to defend and protect the interests of Ghanaian citizens, particularly the business community, through all available avenues, including legal actions.
“The State has the responsibility to support and protect the business community to thrive for the collective benefit of society,” Hon. Amankwah concluded.
