Ofoase-Ayirebi MP, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has emphasized the need for strict adherence to parliamentary procedures following the suspension of four MPs by Speaker Alban Bagbin.

Majority and Minority Chief Whips, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor and Frank Annoh-Dompreh, along with Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli and Jerry Ahmed Shaib, have been barred from parliamentary sittings for two weeks starting Friday, January 31, 2025. Their suspension follows violent altercations during the Appointments Committee proceedings.

Speaking in an interview, Oppong Nkrumah acknowledged the Speaker’s frustration but insisted that due process must be followed.

“While Mr Speaker is justified in his anger, it is crucial to adhere to the standing orders,” he noted.

He assured that steps would be taken to remind Speaker Bagbin of the established procedures, expressing confidence that once informed, the Speaker would ensure matters are handled appropriately.
