- Ablakwa debunks exaggerated reports and urges calm
Minister-Designate for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has refuted reports that 6,200 Ghanaians are facing deportation from the United States, clarifying that the actual number is just 156.
Speaking during his parliamentary vetting, Ablakwa cited official communication from U.S. authorities, confirming the significantly lower figure. He assured that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively engaging with U.S. officials to protect the rights and dignity of affected individuals.
“There have been reports of a mass deportation of 6,200 Ghanaians, but official information from Washington DC indicates only 156 are at risk,” he stated.
Since President Donald Trump’s inauguration, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has intensified deportation efforts, with over 3,500 unauthorized immigrants already detained.
