A violent confrontation during a joint security operation at Gomoa Dominase has left one person feared dead and three security personnel — two police officers and an Immigration officer — in critical condition.

The chaos unfolded in the early hours of Thursday, May 22, 2025, during a coordinated swoop and demolition exercise targeting an illegal ghetto near the onion market in the Central Region.

The operation, led by a combined team of security forces and the District Security Coordinating Council (DISEC), aimed to dismantle what had become a breeding ground for criminal activity.

The ghetto reportedly sprang up after the demolition of the Budumburam Camp and had become notorious for harboring drug users and individuals involved in illicit behavior.

Authorities launched the raid after an eviction deadline issued in April 2025 passed without compliance.
