In a surprising turn of events, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart, Lawyer Obiri Boahen, has given his backing to the establishment of the ORAL committee aimed at tackling corruption within Ghana’s political landscape, especially among former NPP government appointees.

Known for his outspoken views on national issues, Lawyer Obiri Boahen’s endorsement has sparked conversations across the country about the growing commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.

During an exclusive interview, Lawyer Obiri Boahen praised the initiative, stating that it is a critical step towards creating a system where politicians and public officials are held accountable for their actions.

However, he emphasized that the ORAL committee should not be used for witch-hunting.

He highlighted that the ORAL committee, which aims to investigate allegations of corruption through direct questioning, will serve as a powerful tool to ensure that no one is above the law, regardless of their political affiliation.

He reacted strongly to those claiming that the ORAL is unconstitutional, asking, “What does unconstitutional and constitutional mean? Did the past government not sign the anti-LGBTQI bill into law?”

“There is no time limit for the ORAL, so why are they panicking? The ORAL will work; they can go to the Registrar General to form an NGO if they want. People are crying over corruption, and if there is an ORAL committee to tackle it, why criticize it? Let’s see what they do, and if it’s contrary to the constitution, then we can drag them to court.”

“As a country, we must take bold steps to ensure that corruption is rooted out from all sectors of society,” Lawyer Obiri Boahen remarked.

“The ORAL committee is a great initiative, and I fully support its efforts. It’s essential for the public to know that we are committed to fighting corruption, not just in words but in action.”

While serving as President-elect, John Dramani Mahama established a five-member committee to spearhead his administration’s “Operation Recover All Loot” initiative, aimed at recovering ill-gotten gains and ensuring accountability for corruption.

The committee, which is chaired by Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, includes the following members:

  • Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa – Chairman
  • Mr. Daniel Domelovo – Former Auditor-General
  • COP (Rtd.) Nathaniel Kofi Boakye
  • Mr. Martin Kpebu – Private Legal Practitioner
  • Mr. Raymond Archer – Investigative Journalist
