- NPP General Secretary calls on IGP to ensure a safe environment for Electoral Commission officers
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the Ghana Police Service to enhance security at collation centres following reports of vandalism allegedly carried out by National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters, triggered by delays in announcing parliamentary results.
Both President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and President-elect John Dramani Mahama have condemned these acts of violence. At a press conference on December 11, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong urged the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, to take swift action to prevent further disturbances.
Kodua emphasized the critical role of security, stating, “We’re counting on you, Mr. IGP, to ensure the safety of the country. The police must provide maximum security at all collation centres to allow the Electoral Commission to carry out its constitutional duties and ensure credible parliamentary elections.”
