Lawyer Twum Barimah, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Legal Team, has asserted that despite the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) efforts to review their significant electoral defeat, they will need to fight through three elections to narrow the 1.8 million vote gap before being able to take power in the fourth election.
Speaking on the Ghana Se Sen Morning Show on Lawson TV/Radio, Barimah urged NPP members to stop blaming voter apathy for their loss, especially in regions like Ashanti, where voter turnout has traditionally been between 60% and 80% for the NDC.
He attributed the NPP’s defeat to arrogance and suggested that they could learn valuable lessons from their loss.
The Electoral Commission (EC) officially announced the results of the 2024 presidential election on January 10, 2025. NDC candidate John Dramani Mahama emerged victorious with 6,591,790 votes (56.42%), defeating NPP’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who received 4,877,611 votes (41.75%).
