No Timetable Needed: Energy Ministry Downplays Dumsor Fears Amid Power Concerns

The Ministry of Energy has rejected recent demands from the Minority in Parliament for a formal load-shedding timetable in light of ongoing power outages, popularly known as “dumsor.”
In a statement released on Monday, May 19, Ministry Spokesperson and Head of Communications, Richmond Rockson, Esq., stated that Ghana’s existing power generation capacity is adequate to meet national electricity needs, even during peak usage.
“Although we inherited a highly strained distribution network, the government and its energy sector partners are actively implementing long-term solutions to fix these challenges,” the statement noted.
The Ministry insisted that there is currently no need for a scheduled load-shedding program, reinforcing that the available generation capacity is capable of handling demand.
“The power supply is sufficient to meet peak demand; therefore, a load-shedding timetable is unwarranted,” the statement added.
The Ministry also reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to providing a stable and uninterrupted power supply to all Ghanaians.
