Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has issued a two-week ultimatum to illegal miners operating in water bodies and forest reserves, emphasizing the government’s determination to clamp down on illegal mining activities.

During his inaugural media briefing, Dr. Amoakohene highlighted plans by the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council to deploy enforcement teams to ensure compliance with environmental laws and safeguard these protected areas.

“The President has directed that all illegal miners in forest reserves must vacate within two weeks. If you remain after the deadline, you will face the full force of the law,” he stated.

He further warned those polluting water bodies, stressing, “Any investments in mining on water bodies must stop immediately. You have two weeks to leave, or enforcement teams will take action to restore order.”

In addition, Dr. Amoakohene noted that the region is grappling with 618 stalled infrastructural projects and pledged to prioritize their completion.
