The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North and former Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Samuel Awuku, has called for comprehensive reforms in the management of lottery proceeds.
According to him, pressing issues such as the misuse of funds, the rise of illegal lottery operations, and the need for tax incentives must be addressed to maximize the potential benefits of the lottery sector.
Presenting a statement on the floor of Parliament today, February 7, 2025, Mr. Awuku outlined a detailed plan to optimize lottery revenues for national development.
The Minority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, Mr. Frank Annor-Dompreh, endorsed Mr. Awuku’s suggestions, emphasizing the importance of Parliament giving the matter the necessary attention to enhance revenue generation for the country.
The Majority Chief Whip and MP for South Dayi, Mr. Rockson Kwame Etse Dafeamekpor, also supported the statement, highlighting the need to prioritize online lottery operations as a modern avenue for engaging customers and boosting revenue.
He further referenced several countries that have successfully increased their revenue through lottery operations.
