NDC Rejects EC’s Call for Rerun in Dome/Kwabenya
NDC Rejects EC’s Decision to Hold a Rerun Over Disputed Polling Station Results
- The NDC insists their candidate, Elikplim Akurugu, has already won with a significant margin of 1,154 votes
- The call for a rerun stems from the absence of a pink sheet at one polling station
- The party accuses the EC of errors in calculations
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly rejected the Electoral Commission’s (EC) directive for a rerun of elections at a contested polling station in the Dome/Kwabenya constituency.
The EC’s decision, announced on December 28, has triggered heated debate, with the NDC insisting their candidate, Elikplim Akurugu, has already won.
The controversy arose following the absence of a pink sheet from the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2 polling station, a crucial document for the official results.
While the EC confirmed that results from 367 polling stations were successfully collated, one result was discarded due to procedural errors. Despite this, the NDC maintains that Akurugu’s victory margin of 1,154 votes makes any rerun unnecessary.
Rashid Tanko Computer, Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, criticized the EC for mishandling the situation and reiterated that the missing result from the disputed polling station is inconsequential.
The NDC stands firm, rejecting the rerun and calling for the immediate recognition of Akurugu’s victory.
