NDC Celebrates Supreme Court’s Ruling on Re-collation of Parliamentary Results
NDC claims the ruling upholds electoral fairness and legal integrity in contested constituencies
- The Court quashed a High Court’s order to re-collate results in four constituencies
- The NDC sees the ruling as a victory for electoral integrity and the rule of law
- The NDC will file an affidavit in opposition to the mandamus application for the affected constituencies
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has welcomed the Supreme Court’s ruling on the re-collation of parliamentary results in four constituencies, calling it a victory for the rule of law.
In an interview, NDC legal team member Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong expressed satisfaction with the decision, emphasizing its importance for electoral integrity and justice in contested results.
Appiah-Oppong, a former Attorney General, stated that the ruling ensures proper legal procedures are followed, with the court directing the filing of affidavits in opposition to the mandamus application for the affected constituencies by Monday. A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
On Friday, the Supreme Court overturned a High Court order that had directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-collate results for Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South constituencies. The decision follows an NDC application challenging the High Court’s December 20 ruling.
Justice Gabriel Pwamang, delivering the judgment, explained that the Court exercised its discretion to quash the orders, considering the unique circumstances of each case. However, the re-collated results for Nsawam Adoagyiri and Ahafo Ano North constituencies remain unchanged.
