The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has dismissed reports published by the Ghanaian Times suggesting that jihadist groups are attempting to recruit youth to disrupt Ghana’s December 2024 elections.

The article, which appeared in the November 15 edition of the newspaper, claimed the NCCE had detected signals of such activities.

In a strong rebuttal, the NCCE clarified that neither its Chairperson, Ms. Kathleen Addy, nor any staff member made such statements. The Commission condemned the report as misleading and false, urging the Ghanaian Times to issue a correction.

A statement from the NCCE emphasized the importance of fact-checking and caution in disseminating information, urging the public, media, and security agencies to disregard the erroneous claims.

Ms. Addy reminded all to be vigilant against misinformation, which the NCCE has long worked to combat.
