A powerful storm ravaged the Demonayili community in the Nanumba North Municipality of the Northern Region on Wednesday evening, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
Over 50 houses were reduced to rubble, displacing nearly 200 residents and compounding their hardships.
The fierce winds tore off roofs, toppled structures, and triggered widespread power outages, plunging the area into darkness. Essential food supplies, including maize and cassava, were lost, worsening the plight of affected families.
Struggling to rebuild with limited resources, desperate residents could be seen salvaging what little remained of their homes. The community’s Assemblyman, who was also impacted, described the situation as dire and called for urgent intervention.
Women and children, the most vulnerable in the crisis, suffered injuries, with many left without shelter. In the wake of the devastation, affected residents are appealing to the government, humanitarian groups, and well-meaning individuals for immediate assistance to help them recover.
