Musah Mohammed: My Besiktas Transfer Collapsed After Agent Demanded More Money

Ghanaian midfielder says agent's financial demands cost him a dream move to Turkish giants early in his career

Ghanaian midfielder Musah Mohammed has revealed that a potential move to Turkish powerhouse Beşiktaş early in his career fell through due to financial demands made by his agent.

The 23-year-old recounted how the opportunity slipped away during his teenage years, when he was still trying to establish himself in Turkish football. At the time, he had trials with multiple clubs, including Fenerbahçe.

“The trial at Fenerbahçe was a bit difficult, but with Beşiktaş, it went really well,” Mohammed said. “They liked me. But unfortunately, there was a misunderstanding between the club and my agent about money.”

Still new to the professional scene, Mohammed admitted he had little control over the situation.

“I was a bit down, because for a big club like Beşiktaş to show interest, it was a big deal. But I couldn’t do anything. It was the start of my career, so I just moved on.”

Mohammed began his football journey with Ghanaian lower-division side Bectero before moving to Turkey, where he trialled with several top-tier teams. He eventually started his professional career with Ankaraspor, then moved to Eyüpspor, before signing with Bodrum FK.

The Nkawkaw-born midfielder had a breakout season in the Turkish Super Lig last year, making 25 appearances and providing four assists as Bodrum FK impressed in their debut top-flight campaign.
