MMDCEs’ Endorsement of Bawumia Doesn’t Guarantee Votes – Adomako Kissi

Former Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has raised concerns over the recent endorsement of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia by 220 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), cautioning that such public support in party primaries doesn’t necessarily translate into electoral victory.

Speaking in a media interview on Tuesday, June 24, Adomako Kissi labeled the endorsement as politically premature and potentially damaging, especially as discussions are still ongoing within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) about formally integrating MMDCEs into the party’s electoral register.

“It’s politically immature,” he stated. “If you’re being considered for inclusion in the electoral register, openly backing a single candidate could hurt your chances and credibility.”

He further criticized the move as poorly timed and ill-advised, suggesting that it may fuel division rather than promote unity within the party.

Adomako Kissi underscored the importance of cohesion over factionalism and warned that declarations of loyalty don’t always equate to votes on election day.

“Support doesn’t always mean a vote,” he said. “And excessive public endorsements can actually make things harder for the candidate in the long run.”

His remarks follow a press conference on June 23 at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, where the group, calling themselves the Forum of Former MMDCEs for Dr. Bawumia, publicly committed to supporting the Vice President’s bid to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
