Militants Brought Into Galamsey Sites to Attack Security Forces – Ahiagbah Alleges

NPP’s Richard Ahiagbah claims illegal miners have recruited armed militants to resist security forces, warning of a growing national security threat under the Mahama-led government.

The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has alleged that illegal miners have imported militants to protect their activities and resist security forces deployed to combat galamsey.

Speaking on the Lawson TV/Radio Ghana Se Sen Show, Ahiagbah claimed that these armed groups have taken over forest reserves, posing a major threat to law enforcement officers trying to clamp down on illegal mining.

“The situation is getting out of hand. Galamseyers have brought in militants to fight back against the task force that is supposed to stop them. This is a national security threat, and the government must act now,” he warned.

Ahiagbah accused the Mahama-led administration of failing to show commitment in tackling galamsey, arguing that the government’s campaign promises to illegal miners have emboldened them.

He further called on President Mahama to repeal Legislative Instrument 2462, which he claims has made it easier for unauthorized individuals to infiltrate the small-scale mining sector.

He stressed the need for immediate intervention, warning that if the situation is not controlled, the country’s natural resources and security stability could be at serious risk.
