Ruud van Nistelrooy kicked off his tenure as Manchester United’s interim manager with a resounding 5-2 victory over Leicester City, propelling his team into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Just two days after taking the helm following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, Van Nistelrooy’s call for excitement was answered spectacularly.

The action started with Casemiro unleashing a stunning long-range shot, and he soon followed it up with another goal after his initial header hit both posts.

Alejandro Garnacho added to the tally with his fifth goal of the season, while Bruno Fernandes benefited from a deflected free-kick off Leicester’s James Justin.

Despite the dominant display, old defensive issues resurfaced, allowing Leicester’s Bilal El Khannouss and Conor Coady to find the net before halftime. Coady’s goal came from a favorable bounce after a deflection off Diogo Dalot.

In front of a star-studded crowd that included Sir Alex Ferguson, who was experiencing a significant change in his role, United maintained control of the match.

Bruno Fernandes sealed the win with a fifth goal in the 59th minute, capitalizing on a poorly executed backpass from Leicester’s Caleb Okoli.

Next up for United is a trip to face Tottenham in the quarter-finals scheduled for the week of December 16.

Van Nistelrooy, celebrated as United’s ninth-highest all-time scorer, relished Casemiro’s stunning opener, marking a perfect start to his managerial adventure.
