Story Highlights
  • Mrs. Jackson proposes making the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving a quarterly event instead of annually
  • She believes the event promotes unity, peace, and social discipline across the nation
  • Jackson University actively participated in the prayers

The Principal of the Education Department at Jackson University College of Education, Mrs. Theodosia Jackson, has proposed to President Mahama that the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving be made a quarterly event instead of an annual one.

Mrs. Jackson is convinced that the sacred event, introduced by the president, is highly commendable.

She added that considering the numerous benefits associated with it, Mr. John Mahama should ensure the nation observes it every three months.

“Christian groups in the country have been praying for the nation in their respective chapels. But organizing members of all the different denominations to thank God and pray for His guidance, protection, direction, and blessings has created unity among the people across denominations and the entire citizenry. This will surely promote peace and development,” she stated.

Mrs. Theodosia Jackson is optimistic that the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving would help turn the hearts of the people away from acts of indiscipline such as irresponsible mining, dumping refuse into gutters, armed robbery, and reckless riding and driving of bicycles, tricycles, and cars.

She expressed concern over the alarming rate of these vices in Ghana, calling for national reflection on social discipline.

Mrs. Jackson made this call while speaking to over twenty thousand (20,000) students and staff of her university across the country yesterday, July 1, 2025, during the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving. She explained that the university chose to organize the event on its campuses to ensure every student and staff member actively participated in this important spiritual exercise.

The renowned educationist reiterated her appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for establishing the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving.

She appealed to the people of the country to support the initiative to help save the nation from decline.

Sebastian Appiah, Business Development Executive for Jackson University College, told journalists in an interview after the program that their institution attaches the highest level of seriousness to the president’s directive and made sure every student and staff member participated in the prayers and thanksgiving exercise.

He assured the country’s leadership of Jackson University College’s commitment to adhering to all directives aimed at accelerating national development.
