Boycotting Parliament Today Will Be Your Own ‘Jejereje’ – Kofi Adams to NPP MPs

  • NDC MPs are ready to work but will only focus on national development
  • If NPP MPs boycott, NDC will form a working quorum but cannot make decisions

Kofi Adams, Member of Parliament for Buem, has stated that the NDC MPs are ready to respect Speaker Alban Bagbin’s call for Parliament to reconvene today, December 16, 2024.

Speaking on the Ghana Se Sen Show on Lawson TV/Radio, Hon. Adams emphasized that the NDC MPs are prepared to engage in Parliamentary business, but only on matters that contribute to the nation’s development.

He called on the NPP MPs to join the session to discuss the 2025 budget, noting that while the NDC MPs are ready to work, if the NPP MPs choose to stay away, it will be their own ‘jejereje.’ The NDC will form a working quorum, but without the ability to make decisions, which could be detrimental to the ruling government.

Adams further mentioned that the NDC MPs would sit on the Minority side of Parliament if that encourages the NPP MPs to attend.

He urged the NDC MPs to take their seats on the minority side today, adding, “Ghanaians know who the majority and minority are now. We won’t rush to sit where we are not supposed to. We hold the majority status in the 9th Parliament, a historic moment in Ghana’s politics, especially after the NPP boycotted Parliament in 1992, leaving the NDC with 189 MPs.”

In a playful jab at the Majority Leader, Afenyo-Markin, Adams mocked the NPP, calling them the “Minority Nketenkete,” referencing how they once ridiculed John Mahama for promising to provide “Nkoko Nketenkete” to unemployed youth, which he claimed would lead to large-scale job creation.
