President John Dramani Mahama has voiced serious concerns about the current state of Ghana’s economy, declaring that the nation is facing a crisis and that citizens are enduring significant hardships.
In his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of his second term on Thursday, 27th February, delivered in Parliament, Mahama stressed the need for immediate intervention to tackle the worsening economic situation.
“The state of our nation is not good. Our economy is in crisis, and our people are suffering,” the president stated.
He pointed to rising inflation, mounting debt, and a struggling private sector as key factors driving the country’s economic difficulties. These challenges, he noted, have led to rising unemployment and a decline in the standard of living for many Ghanaians.
Mahama assured both Parliament and the nation that his government would take swift and decisive action to stabilise the economy. He highlighted the importance of implementing strategic policies to support local industries, enhance revenue generation, and effectively manage public debt.
“We cannot ignore the struggles of our people. My administration is committed to implementing bold reforms that will restore economic stability and bring relief to households and businesses,” he concluded.
