Mahama to New IGP: Wipe Out Corruption, Restore Public Trust in Police

President urges IGP Yohuno to enforce transparency and accountability in law enforcement

President John Dramani Mahama has called for a crackdown on corruption within the Ghana Police Service, urging newly sworn-in Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno to ensure transparency and accountability in law enforcement.

Speaking at the Jubilee House in Accra on Friday, after officially swearing in Yohuno, Mahama stressed the devastating impact of corruption on justice and public confidence.

“Mr. IGP, your role will also involve rooting out corruption within the service,” he emphasized.

He warned that unethical practices such as bribery and abuse of power erode public trust and weaken the foundation of the justice system. Mahama urged the new IGP to take firm action against misconduct and instill a culture of integrity among officers.

“It is crucial that all forms of unethical behavior, from bribery to the abuse of power, are decisively dealt with,” he stated.

The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a transparent and accountable police service, emphasizing the need to restore public confidence in law enforcement.
