Mahama Seeks Council of State’s Advice on Chief Justice Removal Petitions
President follows constitutional process in addressing calls for Gertrude Torkonoo’s removal

President John Dramani Mahama has officially engaged the Council of State regarding three petitions calling for the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo.
In line with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, the President has referred the petitions to the Council for the necessary consultation process to commence.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, through a statement by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP and Minister for Government Communications, reaffirming the President’s dedication to upholding constitutional procedures.
