Former Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. Stephen Amoah, has refuted claims by former President John Dramani Mahama that the Akufo-Addo administration “criminally mishandled” Ghana’s economy.

Speaking in an interview Dr. Amoah argued that rather than economic mismanagement, key indicators have shown significant progress under the current government. He highlighted GDP growth rising from 3.4% in 2016 to 6.3% in 2024, with notable improvements in agriculture, industry, and the services sector.

Citing global economic challenges, including high inflation in developed nations, he insisted that Ghana’s economy had been well-managed despite setbacks.

He challenged Mahama to provide data to back his claims, suggesting the former president may have been misinformed.

“I respectfully and humbly disagree with the president. Maybe he is being misled because I don’t think we ran the economy criminally,” Dr. Amoah stated.
