President John Dramani Mahama has thrown his support behind calls for a 30-day ceasefire in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, emphasizing the initiative as a vital step toward lasting peace.

Speaking at a credentials ceremony where five newly accredited ambassadors to Ghana presented their letters, Mahama highlighted the importance of seizing this opportunity for diplomatic dialogue.

During discussions with Italy’s Ambassador to Ghana, Laura Ranalli, he welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s push for a temporary truce, expressing hope that it could pave the way for meaningful negotiations.

“We are pleased to note President Zelensky’s call for a 30-day ceasefire. We hope this will open the door for dialogue and help resolve the conflict,” Mahama stated.

He also stressed the devastating toll of the war, particularly on young lives, urging an immediate resolution.

“A lot of young people have lost their lives, and it’s time for this war to end. The only way forward is through a ceasefire and open dialogue,” he added.
