President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to lean governance, stating that his administration has appointed only 30 political staff at the presidency.

His response comes after Damongo MP Samuel Abu Jinapor accused him of exceeding his pledged 60 ministers and appointing over 100 staffers at Jubilee House.

Speaking at the swearing-in of 13 deputy ministers, Mahama emphasized his government’s strategic effort to limit appointments. He highlighted a stark contrast with the previous administration, which had 336 political appointees at the presidency.

“I have appointed 27 presidential staffers and three directors overseeing key government initiatives, making a total of 30 political appointees. This list is subject to Council of State approval,” he clarified.

While acknowledging the need for additional support staff, Mahama assured that his administration’s numbers would remain far below those of the previous government.
