In a powerful symbol of deepening diplomatic ties, President John Dramani Mahama has bestowed Ghana’s highest civilian honour — Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana — on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his official visit to Accra on Wednesday, July 2.
The prestigious award, presented at a ceremonial event, underscores Ghana’s recognition of India’s enduring support and growing partnership in the country’s development, particularly in infrastructure, technology, and capacity-building.
Expressing his gratitude, Prime Minister Modi called the award a personal honour and a call to further action — highlighting it as a symbol of India’s commitment to elevating its cooperation with Ghana.
The visit featured high-level meetings and a joint press conference at the Jubilee House, reflecting the two nations’ determination to boost collaboration in strategic areas such as trade, agriculture, renewable energy, digital technology, health, and youth empowerment.
President Mahama emphasized the shared priorities between the two countries and expressed optimism about the renewed energy in bilateral relations. “We agreed on the urgency of deepening our collaboration in areas of shared strategic interest,” he stated.
India has long been a development ally to Ghana, supporting key initiatives such as the Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, the Elmina Fish Processing Plant, the Komenda Sugar Factory, and the Tema-Mpakadan railway line — projects that have significantly enhanced Ghana’s industrial landscape.
The visit marked a new chapter in Ghana–India relations, laying a firm foundation for future engagement across both public and private sectors. As both leaders affirmed their vision for inclusive growth and innovation, the path forward promises a stronger, more strategic partnership anchored in mutual respect and shared goals.
