- He emphasized that accessible and affordable healthcare should be a priority
- NDC government will focus on vital social interventions
John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has underscored the urgent need for reforms in Ghana’s healthcare sector, highlighting rising costs and inadequate infrastructure as pressing concerns.
During the commissioning of a new maternity and children’s ward in Bodom, Nkoranza North, on Tuesday, November 12, Mahama reiterated his commitment to establishing free primary healthcare for all Ghanaians.
He emphasized that accessible and affordable healthcare should be a priority, especially for underserved communities.
Mahama stated that enhancing healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to essential services would be key elements of his administration’s agenda if he wins the upcoming December elections.
“Many Ghanaians struggle to access necessary medical care, often not due to a lack of facilities, but because costs are prohibitively high,” he explained. “Therefore, the next NDC government, which I hope to lead, will focus on vital social interventions aimed at making healthcare accessible and affordable for all Ghanaians, regardless of their socioeconomic status.”
Additionally, he announced plans for a free sanitary pad program for girls to improve school attendance among female students. “We aim to introduce a free sanitary pad initiative for all girls in secondary schools who miss classes because they cannot afford hygienic pads. This program will directly impact the health and attendance of young girls, ensuring they can continue their education.”
