- Mahama issues apology to Christian Council and Catholic Bishops for being excluded from the National Education Forum
- Emphasizes the importance of faith-based organizations in the education system and national dialogue
- Reaffirms his government’s commitment to engaging all religious bodies in shaping Ghana's education policies
President John Mahama has issued a heartfelt apology to the Christian Council of Ghana and the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference after they were inadvertently left out of the National Education Forum.
Speaking at the event’s launch in Ho on Tuesday, Mahama expressed regret for the oversight, emphasizing the forum’s goal of inclusivity and reaffirming his government’s commitment to engaging all religious bodies in national discourse.
“I extend my sincerest apologies on behalf of the forum’s planning committee for this unpardonable omission,” Mahama said, acknowledging the disappointment felt by the religious groups.
The apology follows a joint statement from the Christian Council and Catholic Bishops, who voiced their frustration at being excluded from such a crucial conversation on education reform.
Mahama noted that the oversight had been quickly corrected, but stressed the importance of the apology. “You, as purveyors of God’s mercy on Earth, I trust have already forgiven us,” he said, recognizing the significant role religious bodies play in education.
The National Education Forum, which brings together education experts, policymakers, civil society, and religious leaders, is focused on advancing Ghana’s education system.
