President John Dramani Mahama has revealed plans to establish a National Constitutional Review Validation Conference to advance the long-delayed constitutional review process.
This initiative forms part of the new NDC administration’s commitment to enhancing Ghana’s justice system and safeguarding judicial independence.
Speaking at the 92nd Jalsa Salana of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana at Gomoa Pomadze in Winneba, Central Region, on January 9, 2025, President Mahama underscored the importance of justice and peace as essential pillars for the nation’s progress.
“Justice and peace are the foundation of our national aspirations, and as the Holy Quran teaches us, we must uphold justice, even when it goes against ourselves. Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done and felt by all. It is the moral compass guiding our decisions, laws, and interactions,” he said.
The President also emphasized the administration’s determination to address systemic inequalities within the justice system.
“We are firmly committed to strengthening our justice system to ensure judicial independence and tackle the systemic inequalities that currently exist. I assure you that this administration will work relentlessly to ensure that every Ghanaian, regardless of status or background, is treated with dignity and receives equal protection under the law,” he added.
To facilitate these goals, President Mahama announced the formation of a committee tasked with organizing the National Constitutional Review Validation Conference.
“To move forward with justice, we must revive the stalled constitutional review process. In pursuit of this, I will soon establish a committee to plan the National Constitutional Review Validation Conference, to achieve broad consensus on the proposed constitutional amendments,” he declared.
