John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) of skewing development projects towards regions that show electoral support for the party.
He argues that this biased approach neglects areas that do not vote in the NPP’s favor, ultimately hindering equitable national development.
Speaking during his tour of the Oti Region on November 4, Mahama condemned the government’s alleged regional favoritism in the allocation of resources. He promised that, if re-elected, he would ensure a more balanced and inclusive approach to development, specifically vowing to focus on the Oti Region.
At a stop in Biakoye, Mahama suggested that President Akufo-Addo had come to terms with the NPP’s likely defeat in the upcoming elections. He further criticized the government’s failure to build a regional hospital in Krachi East, attributing it to the region’s lack of electoral support for the NPP.
“The NPP has not prioritized Krachi East because they didn’t get the votes there,” Mahama remarked. “The NDC will honor its commitment to Krachi East in terms of infrastructure development.”
During his two-day visit, Mahama received a warm welcome from chiefs and party supporters in Dambai, Krachi East. The Chief of Dambai, Nana Mprah Besemuna III, highlighted the region’s lack of adequate healthcare facilities and called on Mahama to prioritize building a regional hospital if elected.
“We are grateful for the educational infrastructure you provided, which has benefited us for years. But now, the people of Krachi East are asking for a regional hospital, and we trust you will make it a priority,” the chief said.
Mahama’s comments reflect his commitment to ensuring that development resources are distributed fairly across the country, regardless of political affiliation.
