Ghanaian actress and social commentator, Lydia Forson, has attributed the recent electoral shift in Ghana to a growing disillusionment with the previous government’s performance.

In an interview with BBC Newsday, Forson emphasized that Ghanaian voters are becoming increasingly discerning and are no longer swayed by tribal or party affiliations. Instead, they are prioritizing accountability and effective governance.

“This election was really about the people; it was not about any political party. The electorate is becoming more and more discerning. They are no longer voting necessarily based on tribal lines or loyalty to one fixed party,” she stated.

Forson further highlighted the impact of economic hardship and government inaction on the election results. She criticized the government’s lack of responsiveness to the concerns of the people, particularly during periods of economic distress.

“Accountability is one of the main things a lot of young people are angry about. The reality is, is there a global crisis? Yes. But when you factor in growing economy, we are going to be hit much harder. Now you have a people who are frustrated and they want to be heard,” she explained.

The actress also shared personal experiences of how the economic downturn has affected her business, highlighting the challenges faced by many Ghanaians.

She emphasized the importance of a listening leadership that is responsive to the needs of the people.
