The highly anticipated cinema premiere of Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin’s movie, A Country Called Ghana, is set for Friday, February 28, 2025, at Silverbird Cinemas across Ghana and Nigeria.
Since its debut last year, the film has earned widespread recognition, clinching 17 awards out of 33 nominations both locally and internationally. Notable accolades include Best Indigenous Film at the 2024 Nollywood Film Festival, Best Production Design, and Best Make-Up Film at the 2024 Imo International Film Festival.
Speaking at a media engagement in Kumasi, the film’s director, Mr. Frank Fiifi Ghabin, announced plans to premiere the movie in all 16 regions of Ghana. The event was graced by Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin, his wife, Okyeame Akwadaa Nyame, and industry stakeholders, reinforcing the excitement surrounding the movie.
Mr. Ghabin highlighted that the movie’s success on the global stage had attracted interest from distributors, leading to its selection by Silverbird Distribution International for cinema release.
“In Nigeria, the movie will premiere nationwide in cities such as Lagos, Abuja, Ikeja, and Onitsha,” he revealed.
Beyond entertainment, A Country Called Ghana is positioned as a cultural ambassador, showcasing Ghana’s rich heritage to the world. Mr. Ghabin urged Ghanaians, Nigerians, and the media to rally behind the movie, emphasizing that it is not just a film but a global projection of Ghana’s story.
In Ghana, the premiere will take place at Silverbird Cinemas (Accra Mall and West Hills Mall) and Golden Eagle Cinema (Kumasi) before expanding to other regions.
Lilwin expressed pride in the project, revealing that significant investments were made to meet international standards. He noted that high-quality equipment was sourced from abroad to ensure top-tier production.
“My dream is to see A Country Called Ghana on Netflix. Even if it doesn’t happen now, I’ll keep producing world-class movies until we break through,” Lilwin stated, calling on industry players, the media, and the government to support Ghana’s movie industry on the global stage.
