Nicholas Kini, an 18-year-old found guilty of the ritual murder of 10-year-old Ishmael Mensah Abdellah in Kasoa, was sentenced to life imprisonment on October 24, 2024.
After the ruling, a video from GHOne TV showed Kini being led to prison, where he expressed his frustration about the verdict, telling someone in the courtroom, “This isn’t the end. I’ll be back.” In Twi, he added, “Bossu, I will be back… There is no truth in Ghana.”
A prison officer accompanying him urged Kini to remain calm, saying, “I know you’re angry, but be patient. Next year… we’ll see what God will do.” Both defendants in this tragic case were convicted, with Kini receiving a life sentence, while the other accused, who was 15 at the time of the crime, has been referred to juvenile court for sentencing. Prior to the verdict, their lawyers had requested the court not to acquit the teenagers.
