Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, the Paramount Chief of Kwahu, has been removed from his position by the Kwahu Traditional Council, losing all titles and privileges effective immediately.
This drastic action stems from allegations of his involvement in an extortion scheme and misconduct during his time as chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank PLC (ADB).
The council deemed the decision necessary to protect the integrity of the Kwahu state and prevent potential unrest.
On Saturday, October 19, 2024, traditional rites were conducted, with elders pouring libation and offering prayers to their deities as part of the destoolment process.
The move followed a petition from Kwahu youth on October 11, 2024, urging action against the chief to uphold the traditions and sanctity of the council. Allegations against Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II include extorting GH₵2 million from businessman Collins Darkwah Aboagye under the guise of facilitating a GH₵12 million loan.
Despite receiving a GH₵50,000 facilitation fee and the loan amount, the businessman claimed he was met with delays in repayment, receiving only a portion of the funds after months of pressure.
In light of the scandal, the Bank of Ghana (BoG) directed Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II to resign from his role at ADB on October 10, 2024, citing reputational harm to the institution and widespread demands for his removal from both traditional and financial leadership.
