Kumasi Traders Endorse Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum as NPP Flagbearer for 2028 Elections

Traders at the Kumasi Central Business District have announced their support for Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum as he enters the race to become the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer.

They have also urged NPP delegates to ensure that the former Minister of Education and Member of Parliament is given the mandate to lead the party into the 2028 presidential election.

The traders, mainly dealers in secondhand fabrics and shoes, held a press conference on Monday, June 23, 2025, where they described Dr. Osei Adutwum as “a visionary leader” who understands their economic struggles.

“We believe Dr. Yaw Adutwum is the fresh face the party needs. He connects with ordinary people like us. Under his leadership, we can hope for better policies for market women and traders,” one of the traders stated.

“His ability to manage the country’s education sector makes him the best candidate to lead. He has an unblemished record, and the party must consider him,” another added.

“He was the rock on which Nana stood to implement Free SHS. When Nana Addo saw how successfully he was managing schools in the U.S.—practicing free education there—he invited him to help roll out Free SHS in Ghana. Dr. Adutwum came and did it perfectly.

He understands business, so when our market was destroyed by fire, Hon. Dr. Yaw Adutwum came to support us with significant financial help,” they stated.

They also praised Dr. Adutwum for making the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector attractive to Ghanaian youth, describing it as the key to sustainable national development. Furthermore, they commended him for boosting Science, Mathematics, and Technology education in the country.

The Kumasi traders are calling on NPP delegates who will vote in January next year to elect their flagbearer, to choose Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum to lead the party into the 2028 elections.
