A devastating fire engulfed a three-bedroom house at Gyinyase in Kumasi, claiming the lives of a mother, identified as Madam Linda, and her three children—two boys and a girl—early Saturday morning.
The blaze, according to eyewitness which erupted around 3 a.m., destroyed property worth thousands of cedis and left residents traumatized as no belongings could be salvaged due to the intensity of the flames.
Speaking to Priscilla Amoako of Lawson News, an eyewitness and brother to the deceased woman’s husband revealed that the fire raged for nearly three hours before the fire service arrived.
He stated that an initial call to the Chirapatre Fire Station was met with the response that they lacked a fire tender, and the caller was redirected to the Abuakwa Fire Station.
Unfortunately, the delay in response proved fatal.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined as investigations continue.
The tragedy highlights concerns over the preparedness and efficiency of emergency services in the area.
