  • Residents are urging authorities to investigate

A pregnant woman tragically lost her life when unknown gunmen opened fire on a group returning from a prayer session in Kukpalgu, located in the Tatale-Sanguli District of the Northern Region. The woman was shot in the stomach and died instantly.

Two others were injured in the attack, with one suffering a gunshot wound to the hand and the other having a bullet enter through her back and exit through her chest.

Initially treated at a herbal center in Gbande, the injured victims were later transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further care.

While the motive for the attack remains uncertain, locals suspect it may be tied to recent unrest sparked by the appointment of a non-Dagomba individual as District Chief Executive (DCE).

This decision has caused significant dissatisfaction, particularly in Zabzugu, where residents had hoped for a native appointment. The release of the MMDCE nominees’ list has only deepened the tension in the area.

This tragedy has further strained the already fragile peace in the region, leaving the community in shock and fear.

Residents are urgently calling for an investigation into the incident and a resolution to the underlying issues to restore peace.

This attack follows a recent clash between hunters and farmers in February 2025, which resulted in a death and several injuries. Despite peace efforts in the area, the latest violence has reignited concerns of continued conflict.

Residents are now demanding action from the District Security Committee (DISEC) and the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to bring an end to the recurring disturbances.
